Rockshots Records - LIONSOUL New Single "Wailing in Red" Off Upcoming Album "A Pledge To Darkness" Out April 2022

Rockshots Records will be releasing LionSoul's third album "A Pledge To Darkness" this coming April 2022. The full length follows the band's albums "Welcome Storm" (2017) (Limb Music), their self-released "Omega" (2013) and EP "The Throne" (2015). Since the band's formation in 2012, they have shared the stage and toured with artists such as Domine, Iron Savior, GammaRay, Kissin' Dynamite, Geoff Tate, Tygers Of Pan Tang in Italy and across Europe along with festival appearances on Metal For Emergency (IT), Biker Fest (IT), and Loud and Proud Festival (IT).

The new album "A Pledge To Darkness" is a huge step forward in LionSoul's career as it is more heterogeneous, in some ways darker than the previous ones. Featuring 11 roaring cosmic tracks, it brings with it nuances ranging from thrash to melodic death metal, including some death metal vocals in order to give more emphasis to certain passages. The album is a composition of different stylistic approaches that converge into the power/heavy roots that still remain at the basis of their sound. The songs range from a classic power metal opener with spatial atmospheres up to a futuristic western ballad, from speed metal tracks - that wink at thrash and melodic death metal - to 80's synth-wave tunes, from mid-tempo hymns in Teutonic/industrial style to the almost omnipresent Cyberpunk themes. “A Pledge to Darkness” remains in all respects a power metal album, but with some dosed contaminations. Overall, its goal is to take you on a hyperspace voyage from Tatooine to 2049 Los Angeles, while passing through Tranctor. The band explains further:

"Imagine your planet at the end of its life and you have the burden to preserve the knowledge so you take a spaceship for a trip to L A in 2049 meanwhile you pass through a portal between 1953 to 1986 and also you change your skin to save the human race from a virus."

Today, the band shares their first single entitled "Wailing In Red". The track is a Blade Runner-inspired story, the wailing of an android who cries red tears.

"It's a classic heavy metal riff that continues for all the verses before turning in a fast chorus, all that arranged in a modern key, with some industrial synths to act as a frame for this cyberpunk drama-inspired song. It’s our first single, a meeting point between classic heavy metal and modern sounds, fast, the notes reflect the obscure and the emblematic nature of the theme addressed in the lyrics with Claudio's powerful growl vocals inserts." adds the band.

Rockshots Records - Cosmic Metal VANDERLUST Shares Space Ballad "The Last Ganymedian" Off Upcoming Self-Tilted Album Out April 2022

Cosmic metallers VANDERLUST (ft. members of S91, Dreal) will be rocketing their self-titled debut album on April 15th, 2022 via Rockshots Records.

Previously inviting fans into their universe with their two singles "Scavengers of Kuiper Belt" and "The Last Ganymedian", today, they share their next space adventure "Requiem For An Ancient World", a prog-thrash song fitted with symphonic elements.

"It’s the darkest song on the album. It has an irregular structure and violent singing. The song is quite long and mixes very different sections from each other: it starts with a prog rhythm, then goes into a speedy section, and then returns back to prog-tech riffs; the ending part is a crescendo with symphonic choirs in an operatic mood. The atmosphere of this song is very tragic and epic at the same time. It talks about a clan of people rejected from the earth who seeks revenge. They manage to tame a new strong alien species and plot to use these beasts in warfare." adds the band.

Birthed to travel the cosmos, Italy's Vanderlust is a power-heavy metal band with prog-thrash influences that tells tales of space travels, astronomy, space engineering, and sci-fi adventures.

"We tried to mix a prog-thrashy riffing in the roots of Megadeth, Vektor and Tool with epic vocal parts like Iron Maiden, Helloween, Angra, and Lione’s Rhapsody. We also put sci-fi elements in our songs, so you can hear also something from Voivod." adds the band.

This debut recording is like a stellar system with 12 different planets. The star at the center of the system represents the heavy-power metal around all the songs revolving. Despite all the tracks being irradiated by the same light, they are all different from each other. Vanderlust has fast thrash, slow and doom, shiny and brilliant to grunge, and darker songs. Like planets, which appear like simple small bright spots, but in reality, are all big worlds, Vanderlust's songs are more complex than they sound at first listen. In fact, you can easily sing along to some of the choruses even if there are complex riffs in the background. Vanderlust is particularly proud of the participation of opera singer Letizia Cappellini who does vocals on select tracks and helps the band further expand the vocal register of their compositions. The band also adds the presence of synths and electronic elements to the compositions to set the sci-fi mood of the lyrics.

"The main goal was to start a metal band that could be an inspiration for young people, a band that could tell them stories from the future when mankind will have overcome its limits and the solar system will be an entire human colony. This idea came to mind to founding members Francesco and Santo when they began their search for other members that could fit. Drummer Giacomo Mezzetti joined the space odyssey right before the covid-19 outbreak. Vocalist Riccardo Morello joined the band during the first lockdown in Italy, so the first song was entirely composed online, using videocalls and file sharing." adds the band.

For their live aspect, Vanderlust is currently working hard to create a thrilling spectacle, giving all their energy to the fans and letting them join them on the space journey.

Vanderlust is recommended for fans of Iron Maiden, Angra, Tool, Helloween, and Vektor.

Interview with Finnish Death Metal CATABOLIC

Curated By Loredana Garra

https://www.facebook.com/deathdefyingmetal

CATABOLIC are:

Il Mostro - vocals
Lenn Root - guitar
Alathfar - bass
Toivonen – drums

Hello Guys! Nice to meet you.

1)      Let's start by talking about your debut full length album 'Besiege The Uncivil', which will be released on February 25th, 2022 via Wormholedeath worldwide. What is the concept behind it?

LR: The concept is based in the psychological term “othering” or in this particular case the act of dehumanizing the opposition and warming the public to a conflict ready-state, tactic usually used against enemies across the border or suitable ones from within. Hence what the cover depicts, a soldier encountering undead himself on the battlefield with the looming spiral depicting the ever present cycle of violence overhead.

2)      What can you tell us about the music creation process?
How did the production technically take place and which professionals were involved?

LR: I do most of the songwriting, the music comes first and the lyrics are added later. Piecing together parts and motives, trying to keep the material from sounding too much like a riff salad but at the same time being aware of not dumbing it down too much with excessive repetition or non changing tempo. It’s not enough if a riff is fun to play, it has to work in context. Or better yet, incite vivid mental images, those usually make the cut! The other guys sometimes come up with parts also and the songs eventually get their final Catabolic-form in rehearsal (if they pass the high standard).

As for the production, it was decided to do the recording part ourselves as some members had a history of bad experiences at local “real” studios. One gruesome evelong process but we pulled through. We’re eternally grateful to all our friends who borrowed gear or had makeshift-studios at rehearsal places we could use. Although not enough praise can be given to Damian Herring who in the end mixed and mastered it. When we heard the first mix it was like a stone was being lifted and the release of all the hard work actually paid off.

Toivonen: Drums were recorded in the nighttime in the right mood by myself and played by myself. Tuning, microphoning, click-tracks etc. were done to be exactly correct. It was a painful process, but in the end it paid off. Guitars and the rest of the material were recorded in different locations, like mentioned before.

3)      And what about the lyrical side? Who deals with the drafting of the texts?

LR: Our former frontman EHK writes them, he’s the unseen fifth member. Usually I’ll send him ideas and phrases and he’ll work on them to fit our needs. Lyrics are important to us, gore flicks and fist-bump cliches won’t do.

4)      You define yourself “Militant Death Metal”.
What meaning does this expression have for you?

LR: I always felt that bands like Slayer or Deicide had this almost militant precision and spirit to them. Even though we don’t really sound like them overall, the concrete elements of rapid riff-changes, heavy drum-bombardment, autocannon vocals and molten basstortion are all there. Another thing is that it differentiates us from all the newer bands playing under the tag ‘Finnish Death Metal’ the way it was done in the early nineties by Abhorrence, Demigod, Purtenance etc.

5)      Your symbol, the wheel with scythe in the epicenter, is very powerful. How did you manage to transfer your sense into an image?

LR: Well, I saw this movie called The Eagle (2011) and there’s a scene where a chariot forages unto running soldiers and limbs fly in the air! I thought the scene would make a great shirt design (which didn’t happen) but the image stuck. It’s simple, multi-meaning and works on banners.

6)      You’re veterans of the scene! You played your very first show in 2011 and, after eleven years, what has changed and what is left?

LR: Thanks for the compliment, but I really don’t consider us as such, there’s bands here in our median age group who’ve been around much longer and accomplished way more. But what’s changed is we’ve now had a stable lineup going on for quite some time (since 2016), the band of old was always ridden with people leaving or outside things causing problems. What’s left is the constant thrive to always get better and stay true to our metallic vision.

Toivonen: Perhaps now it’s the time. Let’s see...

7)      “The Onager” Lyric Vide is about the once invincible Roman war machine but could you explain if there are also some hidden references to your personal struggles?

LR: The subject matter of our songs do cover a lot of ground; there’s tragedy, revelations, strife, victimhood, poor choices, idealism, pessimism, aggression, fatalism, distrust and more. If there are hidden references they’re so well camouflaged I just haven’t found them! Joking aside, there might be a few of them, but I won’t be going into detail.

Toivonen: Sometimes you need to plan everything carefully in order to make it happen. Could it be interpreted like that? Maybe, I don’t know...

Thanks for dedicating your time to us from all the editorial staff and readers of “Spread The Darkness”.

We greet you and hope to see you playing in Italy soon!

LR: Cheers and good luck to your Zine!

"Once the warwagon's rolling, get out of the way or get run over!". (Catabolic)

Boonsdale Records - Start The Rock N Roll Party With THUNDEROR’s (ft. Skull Fist members/ex-members) New Album “Fire It Up” Out Now

New Music Video "Dangerous Times"

Debut Album “Fire It Up” Out Feb 25, 2022 via Boonsdale Records

A fresh take on NWOBHM, Thunderor’s “Fire It Up” consists of nine energetic and catchy tunes supplemented with 80s synths and piano. Its purpose is to take the listener on an adventure full of motorcycle rides, whirlwind romance, and diving into danger. It’s a get-up and go album, inspiring one to give it all in life and never give up.

Founder/drummer/vocalist JJ Tartaglia of Skullfist started the band with ex-Skull Fist bandmate Jonny Nesta and Oscar Rangel (Operus, ex-Annihilator) to create something new under his artistic vision. He expects the album to go over well with current Skullfist fans and new listeners due to the originality and hooks in the songs. He explains further:

“I think we’ve created a truly original album with Fire It Up. It was a blast writing these songs and putting my personality into the lyrics for the first time. We’re proud to have done all of the tracking ourselves (it was a learning experience!) and to have done things the old-school way without any quantized drums or pitch correction. I think the result is a more natural-sounding recording which gives a better human connection and allows the songs to shine through with the real attitude. The songs on the album are meant to inspire a life journey – an adventure with friends, motorcycles, romance, danger, and victory. I hope it will be a soundtrack for your adventures.”

The album was produced by JJ Tartaglia; mixed by Chris Snow and mastered by Harry Hess. The album artwork was created by Daniel Porta. The majority of Tartaglia’s lyrics come from his perspectives on life and some stories as well. Throughout the album, there is a theme of longing for escape and refusing to just settle.

Along with the album's release day, Thunderor is sharing their latest music video for "Dangerous Times", a catchy 80s style piano-driven song about romance and love., reminiscent of Toto and Journey that features a massive synth middle section.

Fast-paced and full of energy, “Fire It Up” is the soundtrack for a great night out or in, and will be appreciated by fans of Judas Priest, Gowan, and Manowar.

About:
THUNDEROR is an 80’s-infused heavy metal band formed in 2020. Featuring a lead-singing drummer and an all-star lineup, the Canadian power trio delivers hook-driven stadium-caliber songs with an untamed spirit.

Since 2019, drummer JJ Tartaglia had felt a calling, one which grew stronger each day. Being a member of several prominent metal bands over the last decade (most notably Skull Fist) and having essentially served as a disciple of heavy metal for many years, the time had come to take his quest even further. A new course was being charted for his musical mission. He would share a vision, a feeling… a message he could deliver only with his own voice.

Fueled by his passion for adventure, JJ began to work on drum arrangements and piano pieces that would become the skeletons of the Thunderor songs.

In 2020, with the addition of long-time bandmate Jonny Nesta on guitars, combined with JJ also composing on keys and vocals, songwriting began in full force and quickly yielded an album’s worth of material. Close friend and monster player Oscar Rangel (ex-Annihilator) was then called upon to do bass and the line-up was complete. Thunderous drums, lightning hot guitar licks, dreamy synths, and piercing vocals would form the musical storm that is THUNDEROR.

The band would spend the next year self-recording the album, priding themselves on recording the natural way, producing an energetic record with a strong human connection. Fall of 2021 would see the release of the 1st single HOW WE ROLL, immediately garnering a worldwide audience. The debut album FIRE IT UP is set for an early 2022 release backed by an European tour.

If you’ve ever felt a longing for escape, a thirst for adventure, wrapped in romance and danger, well what are you waiting for? Get after it and let THUNDEROR be your soundtrack!
